Tweaking my blog’s content strategy

Last week, I reflected on 14 years of blogging. I’ve changed a lot as a blogger since then. My content strategy has changed massively as well. For one, after years and years of keeping niche blogs, I’m now a nicheless blogger and happy to be one.

Now with new goals on the horizon, I believe it’s time for another shift in my blog’s content strategy.

At first I drew up an aggressive plan. It was beautiful, solid and very cool.

If there was three of me, that is.

I knew immediately that if I executed the plan, that would mean sacrificing my publishing dreams. And probably destroying my health in the process.

See, the trouble with being an ENFP is that we have a hard time choosing between our many dreams. We tend to exhaust ourselves pursuing all of them. As a result, we tend to not complete a lot of our dreams because a) we lack focus b) we run out of steam c) we run ourselves ragged.

The truth of the matter is:

  • I have a demanding full-time job with a steep learning curve, which means my time is very limited.
  • I have novels that are begging to be finished and published
  • I’m starting to suspect that blogging is my way of procrastinating from publishing my novels!

I need to choose between my publishing dreams … and my desire to become a content marketing influencer.

No, no, I’m not saying that I’ll stop blogging 😉 What I’m saying is I really need to prioritise and simplify my editorial workflow.

I’m choosing to prioritise my publishing dreams. I’ve grand plans for Tai Weiland. It’s time to give her my full attention.

So the next following months, I’ll be doing these:

  • Blogging three times a month instead of four. I spend a lot of time writing blog posts. I need to reroute some time for my novels.
  • Although I will be posting less, each post will be longer and richer in content and quality.
  • Focusing on two social media accounts instead of well, everything. Before, I was trying to be active on Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Youtube and Facebook! Now, LinkedIn and Twitter will be my primary social media channels.

I’ll still be a nicheless blogger (can’t niche to save my life).  I realise that there’s one word to describe what I’ve been blogging about: “freedom”. So my blog should reflect my free-spirited ways.

And just last week a reader said she subscribed to my blog (meaning, have them delivered to her email inbox) because I’m so varied. That made me feel validated, especially when so many experts are yelling at us bloggers to “pick a niche or else”.

My blog’s mission is to “inspire go-getters to live a life of freedom”:

  • Freedom from debt slavery
  • Freedom from overwhelm and stress
  • Freedom to pursue a job you will love
  • Freedom to create art and to make money from it
  • Freedom to experience the world on your own terms

Some of the content you’ll be seeing (in order of importance):

  • Interviews with entrepreneurs or those who dare to pursue a life of freedom
  • I’ll also be chronicling my journey as a fledgling authorpreneur – from a Malaysian perspective. My struggles, the practical steps I’m taking to make my publishing dreams a reality.
  • More personal finance posts to help liberate people from debt slavery and gain financial independence
  • How to create an online presence (websites, social media etc)
  • Career posts to help you gain clarity about the work you want to do.
  • Posts to help you beat stress and overwhelm
  • Travel posts
  • And the occasional book notes/review or two.

I’m excited about this strategy. I think it’s far more doable than trying to do everything at the same time.

See you soon!
